Ranikhet:
Ranikhet
is the place, which mirrors the best of the heavenly Himalayas; lush green
forests, majestic mountains, delicate plant life and attractive wild life.
This place had won the heart of Rani Padmini, queen of Raja Sudhardev. She
chose this scenic place to be her abode and since then, it has come to be
known as Ranikhet, literally "Queen's field". Pindari Glacier:
Pindari,
the most accessible glacier in the Kumaon region, is located at 3820 mt.
in Patti Malla Danpur of Almora district. Measuring 3 km in length and
0.25 km in breadth, it owes its existence to the vast quantities of snow
precipitated from Nanda Devi and other lofty summits of the Greater
Himalayan range. It takes its name from the
Pindar river which originates
in the Traill's Pass above the glacier. The dense forests along the Pindar
river and waterfalls are spectacular and varieties of species of birds are
seen. The fauna and flora change dramatically in next few days. KV
ranikhet had been the Base Camp for trekking teams of KVS for Pindari
& Kafni Glacier. Binsar Sanctury: The Binsar wild life sanctuary encompasses an area of about 50 sq. Kms in the middle Himalaya near Almora. This tract is considered to be one of the most beautiful tracts in kumaon. One can study about Climatic conditions and wide range of Flora & Fauna. Corbett National Park: One of the finest habitats of the tiger in India, the Corbett National Park nestles in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttaranchal, in the area known as South Patlidun. With it's varied topography, diverse flora and fauna and the natural splendor of its landscapes, the Park is a precious heritage. This area is also a tiger reserve under the Project Tiger.
Almora:
Famous for its rich cultural heritage, unique handicrafts, sumptuous
cuisine and magnificent wildlife, coupled with an easy accessibility. The
Katyuri and Chand dynasties glorified the region by constructing some fine
temples- now renowned throughout the country. Kumaon Engineering College, Dwarahat is affiliated to Kumaon University Nainital, which imparts technical education to the students. The College is situated 3 Km. prior to Dwarahat on Kathgodam-Ranikhet-Karnprayag National Highway (87-E), about 30 Km. from Ranikhet. Dwarahat:
38 kms from Ranikhet had once been the principal seat of the Katyuri
Rajas. Dwarahat is full of ancient sculptures G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar:is the first university in India to blend the technology with agriculture. It has been eulogized Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman E. Borlaug as the 'Harbinger of Green Revolution' in the country. It was also adjudged the best State Agricultural University in 1997. It is nearly 95 KM from Ranikhet by Road.
